Mr Jayant Krishna is Group Chief Executive Officer of the UK India Business Council (UKIBC). He previously led key initiatives of the Prime Minister’s Skill India mission as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Prior to serving in government, Mr Krishna was with the Tata group, India’s largest conglomerate, for over two decades.

As Group CEO, Mr Krishna leads UKIBC in strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and economic ties between the UK and India. UKIBC provides strategic advisory, policy advocacy, and consultancy services to companies in the UK and India. It supports the UK and Indian governments by providing the business voice in bilateral deliberations; also acting as secretariat for the British Prime Minister for the UK India CEO Forum, and for the UK Government in the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO).

At Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Mr Krishna served as Director, Life Sciences & Healthcare (UK & Europe), Regional Director (UK & Ireland), Regional Manager in London, Delivery Centre Head in India, and Global Relationship Manager for one of TCS’s top 5 strategic accounts worldwide, based in London. His portfolio included clients in the US, Canada, UK, Continental Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Africa. Earlier, at a division of Tata Sons, he executed management consulting interventions funded by the World Bank, several UN agencies, the Government of India, State Governments, and corporates. More recently, as Senior Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC, and Executive Director, Public Policy at Silicon Valley non-profit WF, he focused on Indian economic reforms, employment generation and US-India bilateral business ties.

Mr Krishna championed apprenticeship reforms in India, played a pivotal role in shaping the Apprentices (Amendment) Act, 2014, and served as Chairman of the Government of India’s Special Taskforce on Apprenticeship Rationalisation. He has supported key economic and sectoral reforms at the national and state levels and served on various committees of the Government of India. He also co-convened the Employability Taskforce of India’s Planning Commission and was involved in the evolution of the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), and in the formulation of India’s 12th Five Year Plan.

He has served as Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)’s India@75 Taskforce on Skills & Entrepreneurship and led CII’s Taskforce on Apprenticeship Reforms. Mr Krishna drove a wide range of policy reforms and interventions, working closely with the Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Skill Development. He also served as India’s Official Delegate to WorldSkills International, as well as on the India-European Union Skills Development Committee, and on the National Skill Development Agency’s Governing Body.

Mr Krishna was awarded the British Chevening Scholarship by the UK Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) for 1997-98 and received the APJ Abdul Kalam Award for Innovation in Governance in 2016. A Fellow of the All India Management Association and the Computer Society of India, he is on the Board of Directors of some companies and serves on the NIIT Foundation’s Board of Advisors. A Distinguished Professor (adjunct) at JIM, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at IIT Kanpur, and on the Boards of several academic institutions. Mr Krishna’s wife is a mass communications professional and their son is an Australian Government-funded PhD scholar in political economy, based in Melbourne.
