Commodore Bunty Sethi joined the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 86 and is a Surface Warfare Officer specialising in Navigation and Aircraft Direction (ND). The officer’s afloat navigation appointments include, commissioning an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) and tenures on board INS Ranjit, INS Agray and INS Ranvijay. During the course of his career, he has had the privilege of commanding three front-line warships, INS Vibhuti, a Fast-Attack Craft (Missile), INS Kora, a Guided-Missile Corvette and INS Gomati, a Guided-Missile Frigate. Whilst commanding INS Gomati, the ship was deployed for active combat duties, as part of anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden. He was also Executive Officer of a Destroyer, INS Ranvijay.
The Commodore has held several important staff appointments which include, Joint Director Naval Operations, Director Defence Intelligence Agency and Director Naval Intelligence. As part of Joint Staff, he was the Naval Component Commander (NAVCC) and Commodore Flotilla (COMFLOT) in India’s only Joint Command in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and was responsible for all maritime forces including defence establishments based in the islands. In his last appointment prior to retirement, he was Deputy Assistant, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, Defence Protocol and Foreign Liaison, with the primary responsibility of coordinating international defence cooperation issues between foreign militaries and Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff.
The Commodore is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), where he was awarded the degree of MSc (Defence and Strategic Studies) as also Naval War College (NWC) where he was awarded the degree of MPhil (Defence and Strategic Studies).
