Opportunities in the Indian Food & Drink Sector – Webinar Overview

By mita chopra

The UK India Business Council (UKIBC) conducted a webinar on ‘Opportunities in the Indian Food & Drink sector’ to promote awareness about UKIBC’s new role in the Indian food and drink sector, and to provide practical and useful insights on opportunities for UK companies in the key food and drink sub-sectors in India. Furthermore, the webinar also provided guidance to UK companies on the effective ways to enter, and succeed in, the Indian market.

Food & Drink sector Webinar Outcomes:

The first edition of the Food & Drink sector webinar was a success and witnessed good participation from UK companies who are interested in exploring the Indian market, international trade advisors, and food and drink trade associations.

Our guest speaker, Mr. Goldie Dhama (PwC, Partner – Regulatory Services), gave an overview of the Indian Food & Drink sector as well as the opportunities for UK companies, government regulations, FDI policies, and GST implications.

The overview was followed by a Q&A session where our speaker answered varied questions ranging from market potential, duties and taxation, and food retailing, from participants operating across different sub-sectors of the food and drink industry.

How UKIBC is working on the Food & Drink sector for DIT:

Effective April 2018, the UK India Business Council (UKIBC) took over responsibility for the Food & Drink sector strategy and its day to day activities from the Department for International Trade.

UKIBC is working closely with UK Food & Drink companies who are looking to enter India or are already operating in the market. The support provided ranges from market intelligence, market entry support, advice on regulatory framework and taxation, potential partner tie-ups, and assistance with market access issues.

UKIBC is also working towards raising the overall profile of the UK Food & Drink sector in India and creating awareness about Indian opportunities in the UK. Over the next couple of months, we will be engaged in the delivery of a number of marketing activities including webinars, an outward trade mission from the UK to India, a roadshow in the UK, and participation in leading domestic and international trade shows such as SIAL Paris, Global Food Forum, and India Food Forum.
