This webinar will highlight the value and relevance of University Social Responsibility (USR) to UK and Indian organisations in today’s world, which is now even more important during this global crisis. It will share the key findings of the ‘University Social Responsibilty from Dialogue to Implementation’ Guidebook and the panellists will discuss practical ways in which UK and Indian businesses and universities can embrace socially responsible measures to survive and thrive in this challenging time.

Although the USR programme is led by universities, it is by no means confined to the HE sector alone and pertains to wider society as a whole. The onus for achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its Agenda 2030 lies with all of us. A commitment which puts collaboration, communication, equality, dignity and empathy at its forefront. Deepening the links between institutions of learning, corporates, and government bodies will go a long way in tackling major societal issues such as unemployment, poverty and economic decline. It will also help in upskilling staff, knowledge dissemination, and lead to the formation of better and more people-centric policies.

UEA’s India Dialogue and UoH (supported by the UKIBC) have been working on University Social Responsibility in India since 2019. A series of policy dialogues and academic sessions on University Social Responsibility in India and Beyond informed their jointly authored guidebook on ‘University Social Responsibility: From Dialogue to Implementation’. They produced this in association with the UKIBC in March 2020, making specific reference to the UKIBC’s MoU with the Government of Telangana.

Findings from the webinar will be taken forward in subsequent initiatives, as the key organisations work to link the USR agenda to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal number 17 (on global partnerships).
