Ease of doing business reforms discussed by UK-India experts

By UK India Business Council (UKIBC)

A conference is taking place in New Delhi this week made up of a team of UK-India experts to discuss how best to improve the business environment

Experts from the two countries have gathered to discuss issues surrounding regulatory and inspection reforms, tax administration, trade facilitation, insolvency, electricity, land registry and standards.

The wider aim is to build on commitments made by UK Prime Minister Theresa May and Prime Minister Modi, made last month during Mrs May’s visit to India – her first non-EU bilateral trip.

The two-day conference was jointly inaugurated by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion Secretary Ramesh Abhishek and British High Commissioner Sir Dominic Asquith.

In addition to the conference, the Indian Government have given approval to a Memorandum of Understanding on the ease of doing business, which will be tasked with finding efficient methods to share best practice between the two countries.

An Indian Government statement was reported by the Economic Times as reading: “”The India and UK partnership on ease of doing business is important because of the role that the business environment plays in encouraging trade, investment, innovation and economic growth.”

This is the latest step towards improving the business environment in India. To find out more about Modi’s efforts so far, please download our ‘Modi Government Progress Report’ here.
