Gujarat appoints new CM as ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ arrives in London

Vijay Rupani was installed as the new Chief Minister of Gujarat last week as the CII hosted the 'Vibrant Gujarat' event in London

On Friday 5th August, Gujarat appointed its new Chief Minister, Mr. Vijay Rupani.

Mr.Rupani’s ascendancy came amid a turbulent time in Gujarat’s politics as his predecessor, Mrs.Patel, handed in her resignation citing the need for a fresh face before the upcoming assembly elections in 2017. However, she had been under continued political pressure for some time as the state has seen multiple youth agitations in the preceding months.

Mr.Rupani, despite his short administrative experience, is widely seen as the man to take Gujarat’s growth story forward. With the support and attention from the Central Government and fresh political leadership, Gujarat is well placed to continue its impressive economic performance.

Coincidentally, it was on the same day that the Vibrant Gujarat event was held in London in the run up to the mega biennial event in Gujarat itself which will take place in January 2017. The event, hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), involved a 21 member delegation of Gujarat government officials as well as business leaders. The event promoted Gujarat as the ideal destination for British businesses.

The event kicked off with some presentations by the Gujarat delegation on why their state deserved the attention of the British businesses. They billed their state as the ‘economic expressway of India’ and also presented it as the gateway to the nation itself.
