Roundtable: UK-India Technology Collaboration

|

The UK and India have a long-standing and evolving partnership in technology collaborations, particularly in telecommunications and increasingly in electric vehicles (EVs). This has deepened significantly over the past year.

In the telecoms sector, the focus has been mainly on next gen networks (5G & 6G), including Open RAN, AI for telecom security and cloud-based distributed computing. Worth mentioning here is the UK-India Future Networks Initiative (UKI-FNI), a collaborative research project between the UK and India, focusing on next-generation telecoms and led by the University of East Anglia along with other leading UK and Indian institutions.

UK and India have also been collaborating in the EV space through R&D partnerships that support battery technology, EV charging infrastructure and green mobility solutions. In addition, UK-based start-ups and Indian EV firms are exploring supply chain integration and technology transfer while both governments are working on harmonizing EV standards, including battery safety, charging protocols, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies.

The recently announced UK India Free Trade Agreement is also expected to significantly impact these two sectors through a mix of tariff reductions, regulatory cooperation, and innovation partnerships.

This roundtable, kindly hosted by Latham & Watkins, will feature experts from UK and Indian corporates as well as from higher education institutions to showcase great examples of UK-India collaborations in the EV and telecommunications sectors, discuss key trends, regulatory developments and emerging opportunities for UK and Indian companies in this dynamic ecosystem.

This event is by invitation only.
