There is an emerging trend in the world – many want to build walls against trade and foreigners, in some cases literally. After driving free trade and globalisation for decades, many governments are now offering protectionism and sovereignty as a panacea to economic problems and as a vehicle to national greatness. That, despite history suggesting that open and trading nations achieve high economic growth and attract great talent from around the world. We ask if now is a good opportunity for building more bridges to revive growth and create jobs.
