Vivek Nanda (Dipl Arch, MPhil, PhD (Cantab), AIIA, FRSA, FRICS) leads the infrastructure and investment arm of the Hinduja Group. He is a renowned urbanist who has worked on major city -building, regeneration and development projects in the UK, Europe, Middle East and India. He is the CEO of Hinduja Investment and Project Services and Board Member of the UK India Business Council. He is also the Executive Director of the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development and Senior Fellow at Somerville College, Oxford. He was previously part of the Global Executive and India Advisor at AECOM, and, Partner at Alan Baxter.
He is an active policy maker. He has pioneered new approaches towards understanding, regulating and implementing sustainable growth and regeneration of urban settings at the national and regional level. He has led strategic projects focussing both physical and social infrastructure – planning, transport, heritage, public realm and education / capacity building – for the public and private sector. He is leading several initiatives on Smart Cities, Low Carbon and Urban Resilience. He is author of several significant good practice publications which constitute national policy / good practice. He has been on the Strategic Urban Design Panel for CABE, South East Regional Design Panel, Bloomsbury Area Conservation Committee, Transport for London Urban Design Panel, and, Trustee for the Friends of the V&A.
He is currently part of the Hinduja Group leadership on the re-development of the Old War Office (Whitehall) to a Raffles Hotel and Residences. His past UK Projects include the Atlantic Gateway development at Warrington, the regeneration of Coed Darcy, South Wales (jointly with the Princes Foundation) and North Solihull (Homes and Communities Agency), the Public Realm Strategy for Greater London (GLA) and several key public realm projects for Transport for London (including the Tower of London, Leicester Square and Victoria Embankment). His major India projects have been for the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (Dholera Special Investment Region and Dwarka Exhibition and Convention Centre, Greater Delhi), and, the Visakhapatnam Smart City Masterplan and Sectoral Plans (jointly with the USTDA). He is currently developing the Ganges riverfront public realm strategy for the pilgrimage town of Hardwar as part of the India’s National Mission for Clean Ganga.
