Mr. Noel N Tata, Managing Director of Tata International Limited (TIL) and Vice Chairman of Trent Limited, is a graduate of Sussex University (U.K.) and IEP (INSEAD). Before joining Tata International, he has worked with Trent Limited, Nestle (U.K.) and Tata Exports Limited (now Tata International Limited). He is the son of Mr. Naval H Tata and Mrs. Simone N Tata.

In 1998, Trent took over the business of UK based company – Littlewoods International (India) Pvt. Ltd. The Littlewoods store was renamed Westside and Mr. Tata has overseen the growth of Westside, and other Trent formats, from this one store operation in 1998 to over a hundred stores in 2012. The consolidated turnover of Trent has increased from Rs. 8.2 Cr. to over Rs. 1900 Cr. during this period.

Today, Westside is a chain of 67 department stores spread across the country. Trent entered the food and grocery retailing space with the launch of its first hypermarket in 2004, Star Bazaar. Today, it offers quality products at reasonable rates across 15 stores across the country. In 2005, Trent acquired Landmark, a leisure and family entertainment chain of stores currently operating 17 stores across the country. Trent has also entered into a franchise and wholesale supply arrangement with Tesco for the Star Bazaar business, which allows Trent access to Tesco’s extensive retail expertise and technical capability. Trent has a joint venture with Inditex to bring Zara, Massimo Dutti and its other brands to India. Trent is establishing its presence in all major apparel market segments and is acknowledged to be one of the leading, national organized retailers in India.

Having led Trent as Managing Director for more than 11 years, Mr. N N Tata was appointed the Vice Chairman of Trent Limited, and took over as Managing Director of Tata International Limited in August 2010.

Established in 1962, Tata International Limited, is the premier trading arm of the Tata Group with presence in manufacturing and supply chain integration in select businesses. Over the years, TIL has formed strong strategic alliances and partnerships that have reinforced its role in international trade and business. The company is supported by a 2,500+ strong employee base across 49 offices spanning 25 countries in Africa, Europe, Middle East, Latin America, South East Asia and Asia and generated consolidated revenues of $900m in FY 2011-12. TIL leverages its global presence along with sourcing and marketing expertise to offer a gamut of products and services in the four key verticals it operates in: Leather and Leather products, Metals Trading, Minerals Trading and Distribution. TIL’s largest subsidiary, Tata Africa, is headquartered in South Africa and has served as the flag bearer of the Tata group in the continent since 1974. It has facilitated several business collaborations and has successfully created a niche for the Tata brand, its values and commitment to the larger community. TIL through its subsidiaries and joint ventures worldwide, also has business interests in luxury hotels, logistics, solar energy, vehicle assembly plant and trailer manufacturing facilities.

Mr. N N Tata was appointed Chairman of Tata Investment Corporation Limited in June 2010. Besides, Mr. Tata is also a Director of various Tata Companies including Voltas Limited, Titan Industries Ltd. and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He is also Chairman of Voltas’ Investors Grievance Committee and Member of the Tata Investment Corporation’s Investment Committee and Remuneration Committee.
