UKIBC welcomes positive first round of UK-India trade talks

By Kealan Finnegan

The UKIBC welcomes the positive conclusion of the first round of trade negotiations between the UK and Indian Governments, which took place virtually between 17-28 January.

It is encouraging that the talks have set off as they intended with a broad and ambitious agenda, covering important issues for trade and investment in both goods and services, such as IP and customs procedures, as well as digital and telecommunications. It is also encouraging to see the reiterated commitment to secure a comprehensive agreement in 2022 and the continued interest in an interim agreement that would create wins for businesses and consumers immediately.

We look forward to the second round commencing on 7 March and will continue to support businesses and both Governments as negotiations continue throughout 2022.
