Part 2: Battle of the Cities – Choosing your Business Location in India (Ahmedabad)

UK India Business Council (UKIBC) |

Each of India’s 29 states have their own government, regulations, courts and taxes. Rent and other costs, availability of skilled labour, government and economic incentives can also vary greatly from city to city, even within the same state so it’s important for your company to carefully consider the pros and cons of different locations.

Why Ahmedabad?

Ahmedabad is home to many prestigious academic and scientific institutions. It is also an important base of commerce, industry, and trade in India especially within the sectors of Textiles, Chemicals, Creative Design (including Architecture), Pharmaceuticals and Heavy Industries. Both anecdotal evidence and primary research indicate the presence of an ’entrepreneurial DNA’ in the region. This has led to sustained economic self-reliance for the city and its neighbouring regions.

What is more, it has positioned the city as one of the foremost global investment destinations. Attracting a cumulative FDI worth US$ 11 billion from April 2000-March 2015, Ahmedabad is the second city we focused on in our series of “battle of the cities” webinars.

In this session we bring you firsthand accounts from UK companies that have successfully set up in India. Ravi Kurani, Business Development Director at QX Limited shares his experience setting up a business in Ahmedabad, the challenges faced and why they chose Ahmedabad as the right location to launch their Indian business.
