Liz Truss announced as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

By UK India Business Council (UKIBC)

The UKIBC wishes to state our congratulations to Prime Minister-elect Liz Truss on the announcement today that she will succeed Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday 6 September. Ms Truss, who previously served as Foreign Secretary, beat ex-Chancellor Rishi Sunak in a leadership contest voted on by Conservative Party members.

In her role as Foreign Secretary, and previously as Trade Secretary, Ms Truss visited India on several occasions, including most recently in March earlier this year. The UK-India bilateral relationship is strong across trade, investment, education, and the people-to-people connect at the relationship’s heart. With huge potential for growth under the Enhanced Trade Partnership and 2030 Roadmap, not least the ongoing FTA negotiations, it will be important that in her new role as Prime Minister, Truss continues to build on her experience and ambition to strengthen bilateral relations. We look forward to working with her and across HM Government and reiterate our support to widen and deepen the UK-India relationship and be a voice for business.
