F&D Advocacy Win – Extension on usage of pre-printed packaging material granted by Legal Met Dept

By Shubhi Mishra

Due to nationwide lockdown, numerous manufacturing activities, including that in the food and drink sector, came to a sudden halt resulting in an inventory of packaging material/wrapper with the pre-printed date of manufacturing, which could not be exhausted within the time limit prescribed under the defined rules.

With this as the background, UKIBC, with related stakeholders, did an outreach with the Government of India, which has resulted in the Department of Legal Metrology, under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, issuing an extension of the period up to 31st March 2021 for utilisation of the pre-printed packing material stock.

Most manufacturing facilities, both international and Indian, suffered immense operational losses attributed to the national lockdown imposed in March 2020 to combat the impact of COVID-19. A relaxation in the extension period for utilisation of the pre-printed packing material stock by the Indian government body is anticipated to help businesses save operational cost and reassure UK businesses in India of the Government’s attentiveness to business support.
