Webinar: The UK-India Enhanced Trade Partnership: Driving UK-India Digital Trade
Both India and the UK are now keen to accelerate the process of giving shape to a comprehensive and deep economic relationship, in line with the size and potential of both economies.
The planned launch of the Enhanced Trade Partnership – with digital being one of its priorities – is an interim step in the process of negotiating the terms of a free trade agreement.
The technology community has been calling for a comprehensive free trade agreement that enables cross-border free flow of data with a strong data protection regime, investment, and innovation, and reduces market access barriers such as mandatory local data storage. Digital services are going to drive the future trading partnership between the UK and India, and it is therefore important that digital trade is central to future UK-India trade relations. This session will look at what the future UK-India tech partnership will look like and discuss the priorities for digital trade in the future free trade agreement.
Jointly hosted by techUK and the UK-India Business Council (UKIBC), this event will address more specifically:
- What opportunities the UK-India bilateral relationship offers to the tech sector.
- What market access barriers need to be overcome to reach a comprehensive trade agreement for digital trade.
- Where we see division and where there is convergence in digital trade policy.
- How the UK and Indian tech sectors can work together to achieve advanced digital trade provisions in a future FTA.
