Delivering the promise of “Digital India”

UK India Business Council's newest member, Global Cloud Xchange is spearheading India's digital revolution

Since becoming India’s Prime Minister in 2014, Shri Narendra Modi has been driving change in India through a series of wide ranging initiatives and campaigns: Make in India, Clean India, Digital India, Skill India, Start-up India, Smart Cities and ‘Umang’ – a unified mobile app for new-age governance. Improving the environment for the community and for business, these initiatives are designed to facilitate investment, foster innovation, enhance skill development, protect intellectual property and boost manufacturing to make India a truly global manufacturing hub.

“Digital India” aims to invest $16 billion into the support structure including communications and other public infrastructure. In India’s new industrial hot-spots, such as the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and in its Smart Cities, this infrastructure will satisfy the demand for high-performance connections, reliable data centre support and high-quality services. These are crucially important for the global enterprises entering and investing in India and will drive the success of both “Digital India” and “Make in India”.

As a global communications provider and UK India Business Council’s newest member, Global Cloud Xchange (GCX), is at the heart of the digital revolution across the fastest growing economies of the Emerging Markets Corridor that stretches from the East coast of the United States to Europe Europe, across the Middle East before connecting to Asia, with India being the tip of the spear for economic growth.

To global enterprises, it is also evident that India offers one of the largest growth opportunities for cloud computing. According to the Global Internet Trend 2016 report by Mary Meeker, KPCM, “India’s Internet User growth is accelerating at more than 40% year over year and India has surpassed the USA to become the number two Global User Market behind China,” offering scope for huge growth.

“Businesses throughout India – as well as India’s own infrastructure and services are undergoing a massive transformation. Reliable networks, innovative Cloud computing and scalable IoT platforms are critical to enabling this evolution, and we are easily the best equipped to take it on,” said Bryce Jewell, Managing Director UK, Global Cloud Xchange. “Our strong presence in the emerging markets with unparalleled routing capability over our Global Network, presenting a highly attractive and unique value proposition to our customers, especially as we look at new opportunities from the “Digital India” program.”

Reliance Communications (RCOM) and its global subsidiary Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) are currently the largest owner of cloud computing facilities in India, with nine data centres inter-connected through the largest terrestrial fibre network in the country and the world’s largest privately-owned sub-sea cable infrastructure, spanning 285,000 route kilometres across the globe. The company’s IP network offers unique and unrivalled direct access from key content development centres in the mature markets in the West, Japan, Singapore to over 1 billion Internet eyeballs across Asia, primarily India and key emerging markets.
