Vivek Nanda is a renowned urbanist and masterplanner. Prior to joining Hinduja, he was a Strategic Urban Design, Regeneration & Planning Principal and India Advisor at AECOM focussing on infrastructure led city-building projects. Prior to this he was Partner – Urban Design & Planning at Alan Baxter & Associates Llp. He has pioneered new approaches towards understanding, regulating and implementing sustainable growth and regeneration of urban settings at the national and regional level. He is active as a policy maker and project leader covering both physical and social infrastructure – planning, transport, heritage, public realm and education – for the public and private sector. He is leading several initiatives on Smart Cities, Low Carbon and Urban Resilience. He is author of several significant good practice publications which constitute national policy. He is actively involved in major projects in India including for the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (including the delivery of Dholera Special Investment Region in Gujarat) and Smart Cities (currently leading the Visakhapatnam Smart City Masterplan for the state of Andhra Pradesh).
He has trained at Cambridge and Ahmedabad where he has also taught. He subsequently lectured at University College London and remains a visiting faculty member in several institutions in the UK and India. He is Advisor to various organisations focussing on the urban and natural environment, global advocacy, culture and heritage, including the Academy of Urbanism, the Princes Foundation and the Deccan Heritage Foundation. He is Trustee of the Friends of the Victoria & Albert Museum.
