(Jan 2012) Phase II of the Jawaharlal National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) is set to be launched by the Government of India in April 2012. Building on the success of JNNURM Phase I and following widespread consultation of States and Urban Local Bodies, senior officials from JNNURM, the Planning Commission, the Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation are currently working on the detail for a new improved JNNURM model for Phase II.
The UKIBC launched a new service tailor-made for SMEs: the UKIBC Online Sector Service on July 1st.
This online service provides intelligence, events, reports, and creates "communities" by linking large and small companies around specific industry sectors.
The Sector Service offers:
- Frequent news updates via the UKIBC website e.g. transactions, government announcements, press reports, etc.

So the government has been trying to entice private sector investment. And so far roads, ports and airports have attracted the most foreign investment. A lot of it has come through purchasing power parity. And the government’s also been promoting PPP projects with a good deal of success.
There are opportunities for UK companies in design contracting, engineering and project management.
