Andy Scott is Director of International & UK Operations at the CBI. He is responsible for the CBI's international activities including the offices in Washington and Beijing and the work of the CBI's 13 Regional Offices in the UK.
He started his career with the CBI as a Policy Adviser on Education and Training issues in 1973 and in the early 80s was Head of Fuel and Energy Department. Subsequently he was appointed Deputy Director for Regions and Smaller Firms. From 1991 Mr Scott assumed responsibility as Director for Manufacturing Industries to support the work of the CBI National Manufacturing Council.
In 1995 he became Director of International Competitiveness which included work on the CBI's best practice and benchmarking activities, advocacy for the UK manufacturing sector; policy work to develop the UK's research, development, technology and innovation capability; e-business; and overall responsibility for the CBI's work on international trade and investment and export promotion.
He assumed his current responsibilities in May 2005, retaining his international portfolio but relinquishing his other responsibilities to take up the management of the CBI's regional structure in the UK.
He is a member of the CBI Management Board; a Director of PSL Ltd, a Director of the UK India Business Council, and a Board member of the China Britain Business Council.
Mr Scott was educated at the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (BSc Engineering and Art Studies).
He is married with two daughters.
